Who Am I?
I am a brown girl living in Vancouver, British Columbia.
But Where Are You Really From?
I am from Calgary, Alberta. Yee-Haw. I am first generation Canadian. My parents are from Uganda and their parents are from East Africa. In my day-to-day life, I work in non-profit funding and have always been passionate about this work. When I am not working, I am writing. When I am not writing, I am volunteering in the community, reading in a coffee shop sipping something over-sweetened and over-caffeinated, acting boogie with a glass of red wine, or eating dumplings and noodles.
What is Confessions of a Brown Girl?
This is blog chronicles my life as a brown girl. I share my experiences, learnings, and reflections as a brown girl growing up in the 90’s to seeking contentment now as an adult. I share everything from the first time I waxed, to being called ‘exotic,’ struggles with mental health, and learning to love Govinda. My hope is that these common yet unique experiences connect with other brown girls and they know they are not alone. I hope anyone who reads this has a few laughs maybe learns a thing or two.
